HEALTH CARE

The people of this working area are living in dhanis (hamlets), which are scattered in remote areas in the desert, so they do not have direct access to the medical facilities. Even more dangerous is the fact that the people of this area are least bothered about their health and health check-ups due to lack of awareness. To address the problem TERDS is continuously campaigning for awareness of the good health of people through its animators from local population. It has organized awareness programs for vaccination of children, prevention measures for malaria, TB and other diseases. We Organize seminars to spread the awareness for good health of child and mother. TERDS had appointed swasthya mitras (Health Workers) in the surrounding gram panchayats. Presently 18 swasthya mitras (Health Workers) are working in the surrounding gram panchayats. These Swasthya mitras have a complete record and watch on the changing health status of the people. They approach to the people and render their services to the suffering people and accompany them to the nearest hospital after first aid.

• Campaign for Birth Registration: TERDS, Osian organized a 7 days door to door Campaign in each of the villages Bethwasia, Bhamboo o Ki Dhani , Haripura , Thob , Osian , Nevra , Cherai in February( 4 Feb to 17 Feb 08) and organized a Pedal- March. IT- Mitra of TERDS are continuously supporting people to register the births and deaths in their target area as these registrations are of national importance as well as this reduce many difficulties to the guardians and the successors for the education and getting the benefits of various government welfare schemes.

• Welfare and family planning awareness: TERDS, Osian has organized campaign programmes and meetings calling upon the people to adopt family planning practices. This is to make people aware of the consequences of having a big family and its negative effects on the resources of family and the entire nation. TERDS, Osian organized a 6 days door to door in Campaign in each of the villages Bethwasia, Bhambhoo o Ki Dhani , Haripura, Thob, Osian, Nevra, Cherai in the month of November and December 2009 .The villagers are informed about the health centers where contraceptives are available free of cost. Both men and women are encouraged to go for family operations. The people were urged the need of the small family as this can only make the quality education affordable the people. Swasthya- Mitra of TERDS are allotted the targets in each village. swasthya mitras show the movies and posters to the people to make them aware of the benefits of the small family. TERDS expresses through Thar Schoolthat the people of small families can have better living standards and can arrange better education facilities. In this way .swasthya mitras indirectly motivating people.

• Awareness Programme for prevention and protection of T B, Malaria, AIDS: Rural area in this region is not densely populated and people here are living in remote locations called dhanis where health services are not properly administered. So many people and specially women and children are the most vulnerable along with the depressed classes to diseases like TB AIDS, Malaria, diarrhea etc because of lack of knowledge and precautions. TERDS, Osian maintain continuous approach in the villages Bethwasia,Pandit Ji Ki Dhani , Haripura, Thob, Osian, Nevra, Cherai through its animators and the local health workers.We make the people aware of the dangers, precautions and some remedies. Workers of the society are dedicated to secure the health of the people by means of proper awareness among the people.

• Awareness Programmme for water purification and water born diseases: TERDS,Osian organized awareness programs to make the people aware for the water born diseases .In this region the people use drinking water stored in their underground tanks which sometimes become the home of the mosquitoes and larva. Sometimes the water is contaminated with pollutants such as pesticides, fluoride etc. We carried out simple tests for the drinking water and called upon the people to be cautious about not only the quantity but the quality of the water too. We helped villagers to cover their underground water tanks and mobilized them to use anti – larval solutions in the water tanks.

• Pre-natal and Post Natal Health Consciousness and free Medical examination: It was organized on 8th of every month which we celebrate as the mother’s day in our office at Osian. TERDS, Osian celebrate this day with due publicity and information in which Mothers and children, who administered medicines and multivitamin tablets. Society is continuously working for the well being of the mothers and their children as it considers them the asset of the nation. We are continuously making the people aware.

• Awareness Programme for Health Hazards of Drug abuse and Campaign for its de-addiction was organized by TERDS, Osian in Villages. Bethwasia and Osian in the months November and December 2009. In this region the people is addict of the opium and alcohol. These drugs affect the nervous system adversely, which deteriorates the working skill of the people as well as it creates many social evils. Many people are addict of the tobacco intake .All these drugs arepulling all socio-economic developments to the worst situation. Society is active in this region for total de-addiction as the target. It spreads the awareness among the people about all sorts of harms to them due to drug addiction. It stress to eradicate this ill practice through social movement. This effort has shown very optimistic results and now in the villages Osian and Nevra the opium addicts have been reduced to 70 % of those in the last months of 2008.
